This sexual comedy is the second installment of the franchise American Pie. This American film was released in 2001 with James B. Rogers’ direction and writing by Adam Herz and David H. Steinberg. This movie has a troupe of actors, including Jason Biggs, Natasha Lyonne, Shannon Elizabeth, Chris Klein, Tara Reid, Alyson Hannigan, Mena Suvari, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Seann William Scott, Eugene Levy and Eddie Kaye Thomas.
The story is about five friends’ sexual maneuvers and their plan to have an outstanding summer party at a summer beach house in Michigan.
The filming locations are from Los Angeles and California.
Where Was American Pie 2 Filmed?
Cedar Avenue, Long Beach
The director used some houses in the neighborhood of Cedar Avenue for the shoot. This includes the primary house of the film, the one in which Jim (Jason Biggs) and his parents live. One of its most prominent portrayals is when Jim sets up a camera in his house to see Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth) taking off her clothes. This location is in several other scenes of the movie as well.
Address: 4153 Cedar Avenue, Long Beach, California 90807, USA
Another house here belongs to Michelle (Alyson Hannigan). It is a block south of Jim’s house. You may remember the white fence pickets that surround Michelle’s house. Michelle is the one who teaches Jim about the ideas of love when they are in this home.
Address: 3925 Cedar Avenue, Long Beach, California 90807, USA
Country Club Drive, Long Beach
When the guys are on vacation at the lake, they paint an old house yellow. This house was on Country Club Drive in Long Beach. Another scene that happens here is when Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) is meditating on top of the lawn and explains to Stiffler (Seann William Scott) how the Tantric method enhances his intimate life.
You can see this location again in the scene where Jim worries that he needs more training, as Michelle said that he is a bad lover.
Today, the house is painted gray with pink curtains. The plants and flowers are no longer in the windows now.
Address: 4165 Country Club Drive, Long Beach, California 90807, USA
Pasadena, California
Various shots were taken in Pasadena, California. For instance, the scene where the guys talk to two girls in front of the painter’s brown house. This house is different from the one on Country Club Drive because this scene was filmed at a house in Pasadena. It is located a mile southwest of Huntington Library.
Address: 820 Milan Ave, South Pasadena, CA 91030, USA
The house with bricks where Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas) lives is also in Pasadena. Jim runs into this house when he receives the green light from Nadia. It is located 30 miles northwest of Long Beach. You’ll notice this place beside the Pasadena-Arcadia border, about a mile west from the L.A. Arboretum and the Santa Anita race track.
Another location is Stiffler’s party house, which is three blocks south of Kevin’s house.
Address: 3644 Lombardy Road (on Pasadena-Arcadia border), California, USA
The interior scenes of Stiffler’s party house were shot at the home in Altadena. This house has been used as a filming location in various productions, including the Television series 7th Heaven.
Address: 1090 Rubio St, Altadena, CA 91001, USA
Other locations like the Pasadena City Hall and the furniture store at 1253 East Colorado Boulevard were also used.
Davies Bridge
When the boys are on vacation in Michigan, they cross over a small bridge and then they go on to the city’s main street. This was not actually filmed in Michigan.
The bridge is called Davis Bridge, built over the Alamitos Bay on the second street of Long Beach south of Pacific Coast Highway. This bridge connects the remaining region of Long Beach with Naples Island.
Address: Long Beach, CA 90803, USA
Seal Beach
The boys spend their vacation in the Grand Harbor, about a mile southeast of the Davis Bridge, which is actually the Seal Beach in California. It is a nostalgically attractive seaside town with a beautiful dock.
The main street of Seal Beach was used to film the shot where the boys cruise through town. If you look closely, you can find some landmarks in Seal Beach, such as the pier, O’Malley’s Irish Pub and Walt’s Wharf restaurant.
Dog Years Restaurant
The Dog Years diner is the gathering spot for the boys when they come up with a plan for throwing the most fantastic summer party and losing their virginity. This restaurant is called Cafe Opera & Bistro in reality. However, this diner was only used to shoot exterior scenes. The crew shot the interior scenes in studios.
Address: 402 S Myrtle Ave, Monrovia, CA 91016, USA
Malibu
The lakefront resort in the movie is not a real one. The crew found an empty plot in Paradise Cove, Malibu, and built a prop house to shoot the exterior scenes. For interior scenes, they used a warehouse at the Valley.
Also, the Tall Oaks Band Camp scenes were filmed in Camp JCA Shalom, 34342 Mulholland Highway in Malibu. However, the band show scene was shot on the north side of Farnsworth Park at 568 E. Mount Curve Ave. in Altadena, CA.
University College of Los Angeles
The college scene is at UCLA. The college entrance is located at 306 South Loma Drive in Los Angeles. The place they used as the college theater entrance was also used in the movie Scream 2.
UCLA is one of the most reputed colleges in Los Angeles. It was founded in 1882. The building is established with the Romanesque Revival style, which appeared predominantly in the 1950s. Then, the building was changed by including some minimalist, slab-shaped brick buildings.
The creators also used some other minor locations like Mount Curve Avenue E, Long Beach Airport, Long Beach Community Hospital in 1720 Termino Avenue (also used in Spiderman 2002), and many more. The movie grossed over $288 million worldwide, resulting in the whole series’ high-grossing film. However, it received average reviews from critics and the audience.
